The Water Research Commission (WRC) has partnered with Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality in hosting a Municipal Roadshow under the theme “Drinking water quality-source water quality to water supply alternatives”. Over the past decades, the WRC has developed a number of guidelines and tools designed to assist municipalities to address water quality challenges, and to seek alternatives to water supply. Moreover, South African studies have shown that non-metropolitan communities with adequate water supply services are faced with drinking-water quality that is often poor. While effective water treatment is necessary, the need for monitoring and management of water quality from raw water to point of use is just as important. The Roadshow will showcase different water quality key focus areas of the WRC research and offer opportunities to interact with the different guidelines and tools developed for use at municipal level.
