Request for New (open) Research Proposals: 2015

The Key Strategic Area (KSA) 2, Water-linked Ecosystems in the WRC would like to request submission of Research & Development proposals for the projects that will start on or before 01 June 2015. The latest strategic objectives of the WRC and the KSA are posted in the WRC website (www.wrc.org.za) for your reference. The proposed projects should address most of the strategic objectives (the Knowledge Tree) and the Lighthouses of the WRC.  Projects that show high level of creativity and innovation, focus on human capacity development at MSc and PhD levels of South African previously disadvantaged individual (PDIs), and / or having impact to society are encouraged.

  • All projects should be addressing any of the following titles or themes:
  • Remediation or remediation of degraded catchments and sites to enhance aquatic ecosystems health and services
  • Contribution of biodiversity and ecosystems to human health (and wellbeing).
  • Developing climate change adaptation strategies for rural (or small) municipalities.
  • Invasiveness and control of the indigenous aquatic and riparian species. Streamlining the control of alien and invasive species into legislation: consolidation and refinement.
  • Evidence-based provisioning role of ecological infrastructure.
  • Linked to delivery of services or create jobs to improve livelihoods of communities.
  • Contribution of biodiversity and ecosystems to human health (and wellbeing).
  •   Mapping ecosystem services for policy support and decision making.
  • Developing global change adaptation strategies in support of eco-tourism and creation of green jobs in small rural municipalities.
  • Landscape green innovations to improve aquatic ecosystem services for the benefit of the urban and peri-urban communities (based on case studies and community involvement).

Proposal submission due date : 30 March 2015

Start of a project: 01 June 2015 or before June 2015.
