Dr Jennifer Balatedi Molwantwa from the Water Research Commission (WRC) was recently appointed by the Minister of Water and Sanitation as the board of the Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA).
Dr Jennifer Balatedi Molwantwa, a research manager from the WRC, was recently appointed by the Minister of Water Affairs onto the board of the Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA). The IUCMA is an amalgamated Catchment Management Agency (CMA) out of two of the initial 19 CMA’s (recently reduced to 9). While the Inkomati CMA was established and already in operation, the Usuthu CMA was not yet established and thus its operation will take effect in the amalgamated IUCMA.
The board of the IUCMA is appointed by the Minister to play a strategic and oversight role particularly in good governance aspects related to the implementation of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) in the water management area. Appointed based on skill and expertise, the board will be in office for a period of four years from date of appointment. The board will work together with the CMA executive to ensure that the IWRM is implemented and good governance is the order of the day.
