Short Bio
Carin Bosman is widely recognised as a leading professional in environmental- and water governance in South Africa, and has more than 30 years’ experience in the field. Prior to establishing CBSS in 2008, she was the Director: Water Resource Protection and Waste Management at the Department of Water Affairs, and had been a senior manager in the DWS since 1997. She also worked at the NWU’s Center for Environmental Management between 2002 and 2005. She is a member of the Center for Environmental Rights’ Panel of Experts on Environmental and Water Governance, and regularly conducts independent external peer reviews on water use license (WUL) applications. Carin is an experienced environmental legal compliance auditor, and focus her audits on both determining compliance with WUL-conditions, and on improving the WUL-conditions. She has published various articles, and presented at national and international conferences, where she has won the best presenter award on more than one occasion. She is currently a guest lecturer at the UFS, where she teaches Groundwater Governance to post-graduate students. She has lectured post-graduate Law students at the NWU and UP, and has also presented the Environmental Elective course in the MBA Programme of the TUT. She regularly presents training courses on Water Governance throughout South Africa, and is a water-innopreneur, having developed Apps and Software Solutions to assist the water sector to turn data into management knowledge.

Future Research Projects
Future work interests include looking at innovations to bring the water sector into the fold of the 4th Industrial Revolution, by overseeing the development of information-management solutions that will lead to improved performance and decision-making in all sectors, with a specific focus on the wastewater treatment sectors, and decision-making that will lead to Good Water Governance.
